Skomponowany w 1948 roku na zamówienie Związku Kompozytorów Polskich Kwintet na flet, obój, klarnet, róg i fagot, kompozytor dedykował Marcie Thibault matce swojej żony Andrée. Utwór ten uznawany jest za jeden z najlepszych XX-wiecznych polskich kwintetów dętych. Ujęty jest w trzech częściach: Allegro moderato, Andante, Andante-Allegro, przy czym część ostatnia jest najbardziej rozbudowana. Całość kompozycji, utrzymanej w pogodnym charakterze, cechuje równorzędne traktowanie instrumentów, przejrzysta faktura, migotliwa kolorystyka, wyrazista artykulacja oraz ruchliwa motoryka (głównie w częściach skrajnych). W ramach budowy wieloodcinkowej na stosunkowo niewielkiej przestrzeni zestawiane są bloki akordowe z odcinkami w fakturze homofonicznej i polifonizującej. Podstawą kształtowania formy jest motyw. Związki funkcyjne, mimo elementów tonalności dur-moll, są zatarte, a rolę czynnika porządkującego przebieg melodyczno-harmoniczny pełnią struktury ostinatowe. Prawykonanie Kwintetu miało miejsce 10 października 1949 roku w Krakowie. The flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon Quintet, composed in 1948 on request of the Polish Composers Union, Spisak dedicated to Martha Thibault, the mother of his wife, Andrée. This piece is considered one of the best Polish wind quintets of the 20th century. It is composed of three parts: Allegro moderato, Andante and Andante-Allegro, with the last being the most developed of the three. This cheerful composition is characterized by an equal participation of instruments, transparent texture, restless and ever-chaning tone colour and expressive articulation and motion (chiefly in the first and last part). The composer contrasts blockof accords with sections in homophonic and poliphonising texture in a multi-section structure and in a relatively small space. The from of the pieces is based on a motif. Although some elements of minor and major tonality exist, their functional dependences are blurred and the role of the facter introducing order to the melody and harmony of the piece is played by ostinate structures.
